Firstly,Malc enjoyed his turkish bath. Our tour for the day started with a walk through the love valley named for obvious reasons . Giant phallic like rock formations. Some of the men felt a little inadequate !!!!!!!! This is a unesco heratige sight with a care taker and his horse and kittens living in a little shelter in the hills. From there we explored the Goreme open air museum. This was a series of churches carved out of the soft rock. These early Christian sancturaries are decorated with colourful biblical frescoes.
After a meze lunch made up from lots of nibbles ( stuffed vine leaves, humus, salsa and cheeses ) we visited the Pottery museum and Gallery at Avonos. The museum was underground and had displays from the 8 Turkish master potters. The pottery was very bright, wonderful glazes and very expensive.
Then it was off to a Whirling Dervish ceremony. The Dervish people follow the teachings of Rumi and believe by whirling and going into a trance they are getting closer to God.
We had a lovely meal that night with a Turkish lady in her cave home_ chicken soup to die for, then salad and a traditional lamb stew and a dessert with semolina. What a way to end our time in Cappadocia. So sad to leave this region.
